Splugg broadband on PLUS highway

I was waiting for a friend at Sg. Buloh bridge restaurant R&R. I was sitting under one of the huts on the north-bound side. So, I decided to get connected to the internet. I turned on my laptop and my wireless. I usually leave it off, since I rarely use it and it consumes more power when on battery.

I usually use TMNET hotspots to get connected, but while scanning for wireless networks, I noticed one network called "Splugg". It is an unsecured network, same like TMNET's. I was curious. So, I attempt to connect. It was acquiring IP address, and then, I got connected. I quickly opened my web browser, and browse google. wow, I'm connected to the Internet!

So, I'm still wondering, what is Splugg? I quickly search google using keywords "splugg wireless" and I found some relevant results. One of the entries is from lowyat.net. Here's the article for those who's interested: http://www.lowyat.net/v2/latest/wifi-and-internet-connections-on-highway-rest-stops.html

So, in short, Splugg belongs to Cyberplus Sdn Bhd that provide wireless connection along the 847.7km North-South Expressway.

I'm still curious what's the speed like. I straightaway go to speedtest.net and run two speedtests, for KL and Singapore servers. Quite impressive, it provides about 1.5mbps download and roughly 690kbps upload. Internet browsing is quite smooth. I noticed that the signal turned low at times, but it doesn't affect my internet browsing.

It's a great facility. I hope to see more free wireless broadbands available in Malaysia or at least in Klang Valley area where I live in.
